Territorial Acknowledgement

Located at the Centre de Recherche Azrieli du CHU Sainte-Justine, the coordination of the HEALTHY PREGNANCY HUB is established on unceded Indigenous territory through treaty. We express our respect and gratitude to the members of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy (pronounced: O-di-no-sho-ni), traditional guardians of the lands and waters of the Tiohtià:ke / Montreal territory where we are situated.

This territory, long a site of exchange between different Indigenous communities, is now the cradle of diverse cultures. In respect of past, present, and future connections, the HEALTHY PREGNANCY HUB pays tribute to these peoples and their contribution to the cultural richness of our societies, both locally and internationally.

Mission

Every pregnancy is unique. The environment, the daily wins, and challenges vary from one person to another and even from one pregnancy to another. In some cases, taking medications is important to ensure the health of the mother and thus the health of the baby.

Dealing with nausea, headaches, infections, chronic illnesses, or complications such as gestational diabetes or any other medical conditions during these few months can raise many questions and uncertainties. It is often difficult to find reliable information about the safety of medications during this period; that's where we come in!

Our mission is clear: Provide accessible, evidence-based, and culturally sensitive knowledge on the risks and benefits of medication use during pregnancy, while adhering to the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion. It’s our way to contribute to reducing inequalities in reproductive health.

The HEALTHY PREGNANCY HUB aggregates and translates scientific knowledge associated with the risks and benefits of medication use during pregnancy to make the information accessible and culturally relevant.

Whether you prefer to read, listen, or watch, we have the necessary Fact Sheets and Resources to help you understand the medications, their benefits, and risks during pregnancy, all in one place. We aim to ensure that every parent feels supported, informed, and capable of discussing with their healthcare team to make an informed decision for a HEALTHY PREGNANCY.

Methodology

At the Healthy Pregnancy Hub, our goal is simple: to provide reliable, clear, and accessible information about medications and health during pregnancy. All of our content is co-created and validated by health experts. Here’s how we work, step by step:

Step 1

IDENTIFY NEEDS: We talk with parents, community organizations, and clinicians to understand the most common questions during pregnancy about medications, health conditions, and everyday challenges. This helps us focus on what truly matters.

Step 2

SEARCH THE DATA: Our team of trainees explores recognized databases (Google Scholar, PubMed, Embase) to find reliable and up-to-date studies. We conduct a rapid review: this does not include every single study available, but enough to thoroughly evaluate the benefits, the risks, and what may happen if no treatment is given.

Step 3

COMPILE & COMPARE: We summarize the scientific results, using metaPreg platform, into a clear document. We also consult official guidelines (for example, Health Canada, the SOGC, UpToDate) to ensure our conclusions are consistent with Canadian recommendations.

Step 4

SIMPLIFY & ENSURE INCLUSION: We adapt scientific data into clear, simple, jargon-free language to create fact sheets and other resources. We aim for an accessible reading level (equivalent to grades 6–8) so that everyone can understand and use the information. We also work to reflect diverse cultural realities and lived experiences, ensuring our content is inclusive and respectful.

Step 5

VALIDATE: Each piece of content is reviewed by physicians, pharmacists, and other health and research specialists to guarantee scientific accuracy and neutrality. We also incorporate feedback from parents and communities to make sure the information remains relevant and grounded in real-life experience.

Step 6

SHARE & UPDATE: We publish our fact sheets, videos, podcasts, infographics, and testimonies on our website and social media, in both French and English, to reach as many families as possible. Since science is always evolving, we regularly update our content so it remains reliable and useful over time.
